Kokiri auf Eis: Decorating with lanterns

Hey everyone!

Today I'm going to show you three different ideas of how you can use lanterns to decorate your house or garden.

These adorable lanterns from www.myadele.de are made of distressed wood and are topped with this gorgeous hammered tin roof. I got them in a set and they came in three different sizes.

The classic way of using lanterns is by placing one candle right in the middle. This already looks warm and pretty all by itself, but I think we can spice it up a little more. Try placing various candles of different hights in a larger lantern. It' like building a little city and shaping a beautiful skyline. The candles I'm using here are by Ikea.

Then place some artificial leaves between the candles to create a charming contrast. I just used some left-over leaves from one of my last DIY projects with artificial flowers.

If you are like me and are not planning to actually light your candles you can also place some beads right underneath the roof of the lantern. Place a beaded fringe trim on the inside of your lantern and secure it with some double sided tape or hammer in some small nails to hold the trim.

I found that a combination of both worked well for the kind of trim I was using. Unfortunatly I cannot tell you where i got this particular beaded trim, since I bought it several years ago and simply forgot where I found it, but you can get these kinds of trims at most craft stores and sewing supply shops. Ebay might also be a good source.

To put in the nails I just took off the roof of the lantern. If this works for you really depends on the kind of lantern you have. But double sided tape will work for all types.

Another fun way of decorating lanterns is by placing fairy lights inside of them. Here I mixed fairy lights with a garland of artificial flowers to fill up the whole lantern. Oh, and by the way... I am obsessed with fairy lights! They are mere cozyness on a string! And yes, I totally just made that up. ;)

If you like terrariums you are going to love this one! Place a plant inside of a lantern and there you have your istant indoor plant house! This is especially helpful for cat owners like me who like their plants looking fresh - as opposed to gnawed away.

Did I mention I'm obsessed with fairy lights? Yes, I added some here as well. I took out the lights and the flower garland from the small lantern and placed both of them on the floor of my plant house lantern. I love the look of this at night!

The small lantern now houses this tiny little bow string hemp plant. I just added a candle and some artificial moss to complete the look.

Please feel free to leave me some more suggestions for future lantern decorations in the comments. I'm already fantasizing about a tiny little christmas tree with the smallest set of lights wrapped around it. But oh well, it's only August...

Aloha, ihr Hübschen!

Heute zeige ich euch, wie ihr Laternen dekorieren könnt. Neben der ganz herkömmlichen Methode, bei der man ganz simpel eine einzige Kerze in die Laterne stellt, gibt es nämlich noch unendlich viele andere Möglichkeiten, Laternen zu dekorieren.

Dieses traumhafte Dreier-Laternen Set habe ich freundlicherweise von www.myadele.de zur Verfügung gestellt bekommen.

Versucht mal, statt einer einzigen Kerze eine ganze Reihe von unterschiedlich grossen Kerzen in die Laterne zu stellen. Das gibt gleich einen ganz anderen Effekt. Weil ich einen schönen Kontrast zu den hellen Kerzen schaffen wollte, habe ich einfach ein paar künstliche Blätter dazwischen drapiert.
Zusätzlich habe ich unterhalb des Metall-Daches der Laterne ein paar Perlen angebracht. Das Material, was ich benutzt habe, findet ihr z.B. in Kurzwaren-Geschäften oder bestimmt auch bei Ebay. Ich habe das Band mit den Perlen mit kleinen Nägeln befestigt und zusätzlich mit doppelseitigem Klebeband gesichert. Dazu habe ich vorher einfach das Dach der Laterne abmontiert.

Eine andere Idee, die ich sehr hübsch finde, ist, eine Lichterkette gepaart mit einigen Kunstblumen in die Laterne zu stecken. Ich habe hier einfach eine Kunstblumen-Girlande genommen und sie mit der Licherkette zusammengewickelt.

Laternen machen sich übrigens auch gut als Mini Gewächshäuser. Mein erstes Laternen-Gewächshaus wird von einem Farn bewohnt. Damit er nicht so alleine ist, habe ich ihm die Licherkette mit der Blumenranke aus der kleineren Laterne zu Füssen gelegt.

Da mir persönlich die Idee mit den Gewächshäusern zur Zeit am besten gefällt, habe ich einen winzigen Bogenhanf in der kleinsten meiner Laternen platziert und das Bild mit einer Kerze und etwas Kunst-Moos abgerundet.
